In 1830, John Henry Dietz and Elizabeth Geistweit, a young couple from Pennsylvania with different religious backgrounds, moved to Ohio seeking a new life. They settled near Walnut Creek, building a log cabin and starting a worship community that grew rapidly. Their group, largely of German descent, influenced the development of Canal Winchester. The United Brethren, Reform, and Lutheran Churches eventually emerged from this community. In 1982, logs from the original Dietz cabin were used to create a cross for David Lutheran Church, serving as a reminder of the community's roots and its mission to share Christ's teachings.

Our Story

Our purpose is to extend God’s love generously, fostering a welcoming environment where everyone can come to know Him. We aim to promote cross-generational faith formation by hosting 2-3 fun events annually for members and friends, while also encouraging participation in roles, music ministry, and giving. We strive to love, welcome, and accept all individuals, regardless of differences, and communicate service times and special events through various channels like signage, Facebook, email, and bulletins. DELC members are invited to engage in bi-monthly service projects, volunteer for yard work, and support those in need through prayer and contributions to World Relief. Additionally, we encourage participation in 3-4 community events each year to strengthen our connections and commitment to our church and the wider community.
